IRA Rollover Provision Extended Through 2009!
President Bush recently signed into law the $700 billion economic bailout bill (H.R. 1424, Financial Rescue Package), which includes a two-year extension of the IRA Rollover provision as well as other charitable giving provisions.
It exempts from taxable income any funds transferred (“rolled over”) from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to a charitable organization. The following limitations apply:
- The donor must be age 70½ or older.
- The cap on annual IRA rollovers is $100,000.
- The contribution must be a direct gift to a charity (no planned gifts).
The provision will be made retroactive to Jan. 1, 2008, and will apply to gifts made from that date through Dec. 31, 2009. This is another great way to support La Leche League International!
Gifts of securities such as stocks, bonds and mutual funds are
especially advantageous if you hold a security such as stock that has
increased in value since you acquired it. By making a gift of stock
held longer than one year, you avoid paying capital gains tax. Click

making a donation in December that you want reported in the current tax
year, we strongly recommend that you initiate the process early in the
month to avoid end of year delays.

corporations match the gifts their employees give to nonprofit
organizations. These matching programs have been made part of many
corporate giving initiatives both to extend the reach of corporate

Businesses Supporting Charities in Lieu of Exchanging Gifts

If your business currently does not make a donation to a charitable organization, ask if your business has a charitable fund and if they would consider making a donation to La Leche League International.
